It’s gonna be the 3rd in my specials – Revolutionary Rhythms – which features music of protest, songs that serve as sources of strength, inspiration, unity, upliftment and motivation, and stories of action that need amplifying.

This sister is Louisa Jenkins, smoking a cigarette as the police try to question her at a protest in 1957.⁣

A novelist, essayist, journalist, university lecturer,
and social activist, she was hired by Universal Studios in the 1950’s to became the first black story analyst in Hollywood’s history.

Member of the Harlem Writers Guild and the Watts Writers’ Workshop (a group created in response to the Watts Uprisings of 1965), her articles and novels received favorable reviews from authors including the iconic James Baldwin
